Product Description

The Basketball Rim – Collegiate Premium Breakaway 2000+ from Gared Sports is the number 1 selling break away rim in history.  This rim meets NCAA rim elasticity design guidelines and is recommended for competition level of play.

The hole pattern on the rim’s mounting plate is compatible with most competition glass backboards.  Please refer to the Rim and Backboard Compatibility Chart to verify which rim will fit your backboard.  You can also refer to the rim’s specifications pages to verify compatibility.

Break Away vs Flex
The Premium Collegiate Basketball Rim is a break away rim.  It is designed to “Break” or pivot when roughly 140 pounds of dynamic energy load is applied.  Dynamic energy load is the type of force exerted when a ball is dunked with extreme force.

“Break Away” rims were designed as a safety and cost saving measure to prevent glass backboards from shattering when too much force was applied to the rim.  These rims use springs under compressive load to keep the rim in its horizontal position, to prevent pivoting of the rim, until a dynamic energy load is applied.

Not to be confused with “Flex Rims”, which utilize softer springs to flex with very little pressure.  Break Away rims are designed to pivot with dynamic energy load.  Flex rims are designed to pivot with static energy load.

The springs in the Premium Collegiate Basketball Rim are factory set to “Break” at approximately 140 pounds of force.  This pressure can be lowered or increased by the installer.

The rim features official orange powder coat and no-tie net attachment.

Installation
The time required to install the rim is 10 to 20 minutes, depending upon the experience level of the installer.  On most backboards, the rim is held in place with 2 carriage bolts at the top of the rear mounting plate and 2 bolts at the bottom.  On some backboards, the lower bolts are welded to the backboard frame.  This will vary by manufacturer and model.

The Premium Collegiate Basketball Rim is usually shipped UPS or Fedex.  If the rim is part of an order for a basketball goal, then the rim will ship with the rest of the goal.
